Silicates based components have both electrical properties, due to the porousity of its structure, and thermal properties thanks to the particular powder’s formulation.

Typical properties are:
- high electrical and thermal properties
- good resistance to thermal shocks
- low values of thermal expansion
- good mechanical resistance
- low dielectric losses (steatite)

These materials are used as electric insulators or cores for non-high power armoured resistors.
