The main sources of zirconia are the minerals Zircon and baddeleyite, which is 80-90% monoclinic ZrO2 and 20-10% impurities.
The production of zirconia can go through two main processes, used in zircon decomposition: thermal decomposition and chemical decomposition.
Depending on the kind of crystalline structure it can present different properties:
- high toughness
- low thermal conductivity
- good chemical resistance
The Zircox family is composed of two PSZ powders and a toughened compound. The stabilising process is carried out internally.
Zircox-M is a PSZ zirconia, stabilised MgO, specific for cones, pulleys, hot extruders and the automotive sector.
Zircox-Y is a PSZ zirconia, stabilised Y2O3, specific for seals for the pumps sector.
Zircalox is a ZTA composite material, with superior strength, toughness and wear resistance when compared to conventional alumina.
